Response to Oprah's Rules to Live By

Some of these I know, always have.  And some I wish I'd learn and implement.  But this is me, and I do have quibbles.

Oprah Rule #1: What you put out comes back all the time, no matter what.

--this is true in the same way that "energy is neither created nor destroyed"... but every time you convert energy a lot of it gets frittered away as friction or something.  It doesn't actually disappear, but it becomes
unavailable or unusable.

Oprah Rule #2. You define your own life. Don't let other people write your script.

--also true... but you cannot get them to READ it either.  And don't count on them understanding it even if they do.

Oprah Rule #4. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.

--a standout example of something I wish I'd start practising.  I know it's well-hidden but I tend to believe the best about people.  When I see the good AND the bad I overvalue the good and discount the bad.  I've gotten bent over a sawhorse many times because of that.  Or maybe I just cannot
believe people can be as stupid as they are.  Well-- "Yes, They CAN" be.

Oprah Rule #8. The happiness you feel is in direct proportion to the love you give.

Oprah Rule #15. Love doesn't hurt. It feels really good.

--nope.  To both. Or maybe I've just done it wrong.

Oprah Rule #18. Doubt means don't. Don't move. Don't answer. Don't rush forward.

Oprah Rule #19. When you don't know what to do, get still. The answer will come.

--both of these sound really good and "it'd be nice IF"... but many times
there is nothing but doubt, and holding still doesn't work.

Oprah Rule #14. Find a way to get paid for doing what you love. Then every paycheck
will be a bonus.

--you know, in a cynical way, I just love successful people who move out of the sphere of others who have worked just as hard as they have but never got that "break"... they forget ALL about that... all they remember is how hard they worked, and they lose the realization of the fact that the only
thing all their work did was to put them in the zone where lucky breaks CAN happen, and even increase their chances... but they forget it doesn't always just happen automatically when you do the work.  They definitely forget the people who have worked harder but never got the right dice-roll.

As these things go this list isn't bad... but I'd like to hear from someone who has done the work and still lost.  Just for balance.  Perspective.  Because a lot of this seems a bit bubbleheaded.
